Hi all, im in the UK and im wanting to buy a Bayliner 2855 Cierra (1994-1997) from the USA (probably FL area) and import it, ive not done this before and im after some advice as to the practical side of things involving:

Who could provide a good value survey in FL area?

Shall i buy via broker or can i also buy private?

Can boat be shipped on trailer?

How much would a cradle cost to be made?

How much would a trailer cost?

Which port would the boat have to be transported to for export to UK? how much would this cost?

What documents prove the boat has no finance upon it and prove legal ownership?

What would be the likely shipping cost with insurance for the 2855

What would be the chance of finding a private seller who would be willing to help arrange transport to dock/shipping ect?

Does anyone know of a nice 2855 for sale?

Im not to bothered about engine/drive condition as it will be converted to a diesel when in UK, ive heard there is quite a few damaged boats after the terrible hurricans that insurance companys are selling off, is this true? who are they? (i dont mind a few gelcoat repairs, deck repairs or damaged drives or blown engines but dont want any thats been submerged

Lastly is there any 2855 owners who can give me their opinons on the boat performance/build etc? Im under the impression from looking around that the 2855 had a face lift after about 1993/4 (new beige dash etc) what is the actual correct date of this face lift?

Thanks in advance for all replies!

Wong

Hi Again Wonging,

Have just seen the double post. Sorry mate.

Bear in mind when buying from the US that the further inland you go the more expensive the haulage. Buying from, say, Florida means that haulage is minimal and whether north or south, you have Jacksonville or Miami Port.

You can get direct shipping to the UK. A Cierra 2855 won't go in a container. If you can buy it on a trailer, then it'll be shrinkwrapped and shipped in the hold. Safe. If it's not on a trailer, it'll pay you to buy a trailer anyway - roll on, roll off. Otherwise, you'll have haulage, cranage, etc to pay for - both ends. And you'll have to get it from the UK docks to where your water is.

If you want detailed info about dealers, carriers or haulage in Florida, email me: stillfishing@hotmail.com

Re: Wanting to buy/Import a Bayliner 2855 to UK?

Just before hurricane Andrew ripped through our neighborhood (1992)I sold our 27 1/2' Bayliner flybridge to a guy who lived about 60 miles outside of Stockholm Sweden. He had a friend in Stuart Florida make the deal with me on his behalf. We live in Miami. It cost him $6,000 to ship. It was on a triple axle trailer. I, as the seller, was not involved with the paperwork. I did require a bank transfer of the sale price before I released the boat. I think it was being shipped out of Ft. Lauderdale Fl.

If the boat you buy does not come with a trailer I think you should be able to get a new one for $2.5-3K. Used will of course be less.

You can buy the boat new or used. I recommend that you get a survey done on any boat you are seriously considering. My boat was 15 years old and in good condition though the engine was "tired." The guy who bought the boat did not require a water test, get a survey and did not even ask me to start it.

Some of those Bayliners were pretty decent boats. Mine was powered by a 350 Chevy/Volvo outdrive and was considerably underpowered.

I was glad to see it go.
