1998 Mariner 135. Anyone have detailed pics & instructions on how to check to see that it is operational ??? Oil injection has been removed so no alarms at startup. Just bought used & figured better safe than sorry. Thanks

Re: Wanting to check Mariner overheat alarm

Thanks, but if anyone has pics for a 1998 Mariner 135 it would be nice as I definitley don't want to screw anything up. Not exactly sure what wire to ground & where. I'm just not 100% certain & I want to check it right. Just got this engine on a new to me boat & know nothing about a merc other than I blew the last one I had up. lol

Can't do much without a serial number or a description of the engine, ie carb'd or efi. It has to be exact serial number if that is what you have to identify it. Mercury links it to the exact build list.

Les;

As j_martin is working with you on this, I will leave it to him but here is some other information for you:

Your s/n comes up as a model:

7135412GD MARINER 1998 135

Parts listing:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/1678.cfm

Service Manual P/N: 90-824052R3

http://1manual.com/Mercury manuals/Service Manual PDFs/TwoStroke/824052r3/cover.pdf

You must have Adobe Acrobat reader installed to use this manual. If you scroll down to the lower part of the opening page, you will see the various engine components in red. Click on the one you want and when the first page opens, click on the "Save As" icon at the top LH corner of the page and you can save it to your computer.

Re: Wanting to check Mariner overheat alarm

Back from the woods.

On the starboard side, above the switchbox mounting plate is a 2 screw terminal strip. One wire is purple, which used to be power to the oil alert module. The other is tan, which is the alarm circuit. Ground that screw and the buzzer should sound. There should be a wire going from that screw to the overtemp switch on one of the heads.

hope it helps
