I have a Wards Sea King 9.9, M-VWR 52299, S-08X 20672. From what I've read, it is made by Chrysler. What would a comparable Chrysler serial number be to use for parts identification? And what year would it be?

I have 2 problems:
First it miss fires as I start to come up on the throttle, and my low speed is just slightly below the shift mark. I am no-where near the low speed mark. I have played with the carb-to-timing settings but can't seem to get it right. I see there are some marks on the timing advance, one seems to be at full throttle, the other is at the low end. How do I set the acceleration advance in correlation to the timing advance using these marks?

The other problem is I need to replace my water pump impeller but would like to have a step by step explanation of dropping the lower unit.

I have looked at the current threads and have not found these answer's, or I am blind (which would not surprise me) so I thank you all if you can help me.

1980 similar to a 92H0G. If you go to www3.sears.com and enter 225.581990 you'll be able to access and print parts diagrams of a 1987 model. It won't be much different.

The gearcase isn't hard to drop. There are probably just the four bolts and the shift linkage. The hardest part will be to get it back on and the shift linkage adjusted. Take some tape and wrap some around the upper and lower shift rods at a pre-determined distance before starting to remove, say 3 inches. When you put it back together, readjust to that measurement and you'll be dang close if not right on.

I'd bet your misfiring is the points needing cleaning and gapping. You can buy new points, or save that money for gas and just resurface them. I use wet/dry sandpaper in increasingly fine grits to make them good as new.

The lo-end mark on the carb advance cam is where the throttle butterfly should start opening up. The upper-end one is probably where it should be flat horizontal I suppose. If there isn't an adjustment on the carb or linkage, the cam should be adjustable under the magneto plate.

Thanks very much,
I just took the flywheel off and low and behold there's points. I just ran in here to see if I can get a correct gap setting when I ran across your reply. I have to admit I feel a little embarassed but I had totally forgot about points. I am going to do a search, but if anyone can reply with the correct setting I would appreciate it. They are now at .020".

WARNING!!!-
FYI- I took the flywheel off as a quick access to drive the roll pin out to fix the broken recoil cord guide roller - driving the pin back in I cracked the top piece just a bit. I pushed it the remaining distance with a channel locks.
