I have a Wards Sea King 7.5hp With Clinton motor.
Year--????
Model# K7515106B
Serial# 1511084
Type# XTV50575B
On the front it says to mix 3oz of SAE 30 OIL per gallon of gas. Can this mean just plain auto oil? If so will both Detergent and non-detergent work. I know that members of the forum have said to use a chain saw type oil. I'm probley wrong but doesn't this figure out to 42.66 to 1 mixture? The guy I got it from said he thought it had 50 to 1 outboard mix in it. It runs good on that, but I know doing that is a no-no.
Also what is the proper plug to use?
Thanks for any input

Don't use chain saw oil. Use TCW-3 instead, just as the stocker says 3 oz per gallon. A little extra now and then doesn't hurt...if your hand slips.

I disagree with Tim!

Air cooled engines operate at higher temps than water cooled engines. That is why there is a "W" in TC-W3, to specify "Water cooled".

When Kenny's engine was produced, there were no specialty 2 stroke oils available, and non-detergent motor oil was common, though it produced a lot of coking (carbon). Detergent oil is much worse.

Use chainsaw or weedwhacker oil, Kenny. It is made for air cooled 2 stroke engines. The 42:1 ratio recommended is fine for that engine. Do not use 50:1 with TC-W3. It will drastically shorten the life of the engine.

Good luck. :)

Sea King KTV50575 is a 1979 7.5hp engine. XTV doesn't make sense - could that X be a K?
Champion now suggests RJ14YC, gapped at .025"

Re: Wards Sea King Oil

Thanks guys. I have some weed wacker oil that I can use in it. Glad I got the info about SAE 30 oil causing carbon. I don't have any idea what I am going to use this motor for, as it came on a boat that I will use an electric trolling motor on. Gonna be a lot of fun playing with it anyway. Thanks again for the info.
