Hello all, Ive got an 89 30 HP Evinrude TJ30ELECD Ive been fighting with for a while. The motor starts in the drive way or at the dock just fine. It runs out great. You can shut it down and fire it up again immediately however if you let it set it seems to get flooded. Is it possible for the primer solenoid to cause issues with this? I can usually get it started by tilting the motor and draining the fuel from the throat of the carb and crainking it, dropping it back in and then chocking it.

How do I troubleshoot this? Any suggestions appreciated.

The primer solenoid is a valve and not a pump.----Test with another fuel tank.-----There may be issues with venting.

It would be odd with no other symptoms but if the tank is building some pressure due to not venting completely it could possibly push the fuel through to the carb. Jmo

I had the same symptoms with my old fuel tank so I replaced it. The symptoms continued with the new tank. I haven't been able to find a matching fuel line/connector. Will try replacing that next.

My next thought would sticking float or needle and seat not sealing. The primer valve in not in the manual position correct?

I forgot to mention that the primer solenoid is repairable with a kit if you feel it’s leaking

The carb was replaced with a rebuilt one from a reputable shop as the previous did the same thing. I'll try rebuilding the solenoid. thanks
