Warm up levers

Being new to outboards I have two questions for the experts (or anyone who knows more than me). First what exactly is the function of a warm up lever? I'm not sure what it does or when it should be used or engaged. Also the motor I bought, a Johnson Seahorse, unfortunately didn't come with a key. If I have the serial # for the motor, is it possible to get a replacement key and if so, where would I look. Thanks for the help.<br /><br />Mike

Answer to question 1: The warm up lever is used when the engine is cold. Usually when you first start your engine.It will let you warm up the engine befor you put it in gear.Once it will idle on its owne you will disengage the lever, and then swiftly shift it into gear.If it dies it may not be warm.You also should have a choke to help you with cold starting then warm it up and your off.

your best bet on the key, in my oppinion is to install a new switch with a new key. Easy job, Easy fix.
