I am having trouble with my 2001 Mercury four-stroke 115. The motor is on a Lund Mr. Pike.

Ever since I bought the boat, and read about the alarms in the motor phamlet, I have been concerned. The manual states that the alarm will sound if there is a problem, but how do I know if the alarm is actually working? There has never been a sound when I turn the key. Should there be? I looked around the area under the ignition switch and could not see any sort of buzzer. I read about a tan wire, but could not locate any near the ignition or on the motor. Perhaps my dealer did not hook up or install it.

So ... should there be an alarm? And should that alarm work with the ignition? If not, how do I go about testing the alarm?

Thanks in advance.

not sure about the four stroke, but on my 2 stroke there is a brief warning horn when i turn my ignition switch on, just to let me know the system is working.

Yes there should be a alarm and it should sound when you turn key on. You can turn key on and take a jumper wire and ground out either the oil pressure switch under flywheel or temp sender and alarm should sound.
