I have a 305 merc with alpha one out drive. I replaced the impeller today and my warning beeper is going off now. I filled the foot up with fluid till it came out the top hole, so that is full. Hooked up to muffs in the yard and seems to be pumping some water. Not sure if it is enough though. We have a 4 day trip to the lake planned for next week so I have to get this figured out A.S.A.P.. If I didn't get the key in the impeller correctly and the shaft is slipping and not spinning the impeller could that be the problem. I didn't let it run long enough to see if the engine would get hot.

Re: Warning beeper help

Same ole game, what year, what drive, what's the serial number.

If you have a Chevy truck with a problem, do you get on a forum and say my Chevy truck with a 305 has a warning light coming on and expect an answer?

'98 Ebbtide 5.0 305 mercruiser serial #Olo67801 with alpha 1 outdrive. If I put the impeller in backwards would that cause warning to sound?

Re: Warning beeper help

and then you replaced the top bung and continued to pump till it started refilling the lube reservoir in the engine bay.right??????
if you missed this step the reservoir is screaming at you to fill to the correct level once doing it by the above to prevent an air lock.

Re: Warning beeper help

Great, here is what you have. Suggest you put this in yor signature.
It will always be needed when you have engine and drive question.

5.0L EFI TBI (GEN +) Engine, Alpha I Gen II Outdrive
SN 0L067801 Model 4M31027LS 1998

On to the problem.
Is the drive oil reservoir on the engine full of gear lube. If so, disconnect one of the wires going to it and see if the alarm goes off.

Does the alarm come on just after the engine is started and not go off? The same alarm is for low oil pressure or high coolant temperature.

Re: Warning beeper help

Thank you Don S and ding dongs. Looks like that is the problem. I didn't finish the job. That will be the morning project before I hit the water to check everything out. Thanks a lot and happy boating. Also Don s I saved my info to my signature like you suggested, will that automatically pop up when I post? Thanks again.
