Warning buzzer?

I was poking about behind the dashboard of my Bayliner 175 (2000 year) today and saw that there was a warning buzzer fitted. Its hanging from a cable tie and is connected with bullet connectors to the wiring loom with a mauve wire and a brown / blue wire. The wires in the loom are the same colour which makes me think its original and not been added by someone.

The wiring diagram in my manual shows an alarm buzzer which is activated by either overheat, low oil pressure or low drive lubricant level but Ive never heard the buzzer sound, even before the engine is started, as you might expect for the oil pressure case.

Since the oil press and water temp are electronic instruments, the buzzer could be wired up but Im pretty sure theres no sensor for the drive lube level.

Is this buzzer standard with my boat? Can I get it to work?

Re: Warning buzzer?

The alarm does NOT work off of the gauge senders. They have their own switches that operates the buzzer.
What engine do you have? Even the 3.0L has the sensor of the gear lube monitor. What is your engines serial number, year doesn't help.

Yes its the 3,0l OL 634881

The gear lube reservoir definitely has no switch on it or wires leading from it.

Strange that the buzzer doesn'twork with the ignition on and motor not running (=0 oil pressure).

Perhaps the buzzer doesn't work?

My '05 3.0L was the same...wiring, and buzzer, for the alarm was installed...but none of the necessary switches were installed. My drive gear reservoir was missing the float sensor (and no wires), and I had to purchase a new one with them. I added the OEM temp switch (red band) and the oil pressure switch, and the rest is a happy ending!

Here is what you would see at the thermostat IF you had both the sending unit and the switch:

My engine had a brass plug where the temp switch went.

Happy boating!

OK....

Thanks for that, Rocky and for taking the trouble to put the picture up. It seems my boat has the same mod state as yours.

Im getting the parts tofether to add a water pressure gauge / alarm so I doubt Ill add the other sensors, as you have done.

iboats is a great resource!
