Warning Horn '93 225 Johnson

Looking for some troubleshooting help with the above motor. Shortly after starting the motor the warning horn went off. I had 10 psi of water pressure and a good stream of water. The heads did not feel overly hot, but I did not test with a heat gun. I disconnected the temperature sensors located in the head and the horn continued to go off.

Prior to starting the engine, I had a hard time getting the priming ball to pick up fuel and get hard. While troubleshooting, I ended up re-prime to re-prime the bulb and the horn problem went away?

Does the horn go off on low fuel pressure also? Last year when winterizing I decided to run the gas out of the engine and remember the horn going off VRO also. The VRO system is disconnected.

Any help would be appreciated.

Doesn't sound like a fuel pressure problem. I'm curious to find out why the horn stayed on after you disconnected the wire. You did pull the tan wire right? and was it the steady continuous horn?

Was the alarm you were getting a constant tone or an intermittent one?Is the amphenol plug unplugged from the VRO pump harness disabling the VRO alarms?If so ,and you infact disconnected the temp sensor leads,then you either have a ground issue on one of the sensor wires or the alarm itself is possibly faulty.Also insure that the vro oil rservoir alarm wires are disconnected as well.

Yes - It was a continuous alarm and I did pull the tan wires. The previous owner disabled the VRO. How do I locate the amphenol plug on the VRO harness. Looks like all of the wires coming from the VRO pump have been cut at the pump.

Your engine is equipped with a vacuum switch to warn of restricted or no fuel flow. This alarm is also continuous. The switch is mounted on the VRO pump bracket and has a small fuel line running to it. It will also have a single wire coming from it with an amphenol connector. Find this wire and when the alarm comes in again, pull the connector apart. If the alarm stops, you may have a fuel supply problem. Try squeezing the primer bulb and see if the alram stops.

If the alarm continues after pulling the amphenol connector apart, the horn module may be going bad.

There are 4 alarm signals for a large V6 like yours..

With the "VRO" wires cut and I'm sure the oil tank wires are disconnected, your particular motor only has 2; overheat and fuel restriction.

If you check your owners manual, an overheat is a steady tone and the motor slows down to about 2500 rpm. A fuel restriction is a steady tone that usually goes away as you pull the throttle back. It is possible to have a bad sensor, though.
