I have a 1995 evinrude 88 special and just recently corrected a problem where my warning horn was staying on constantly signaling that the motor was overheating. But now it is chirping at a fast pace and I dont know why. I do not have an oil pump my motor is pre mix so maybe somebody could shed some light on the situation. Thanks in advance for any help.

Did your engine have oil injection?

If so, are the wires unplugged?

Many times it's a faulty horn. Ot it could be a faulty temp sensor. Unplug the wire going to the temp sensor on the engine(Tan Wire) and see if it stops. If so, the sensor may be going haywire. Normally, the temp sensor will put out a solid beep, but ya never know. Trial and error... How did you correct the original problem with the horn?

does it chirp all the time or only at high speed?
If it chirp at WOT it could be the fuel restict alarm.
If its close to fuel restrict now and then it start to chirp like that.

The original problem was the left cylinder bank's temp sensor. I did not unplug the right cylinder bank sensor maybe that could be it. Thanks for the help. And it usually only chirps in neutral or idle speeds.

Can you confirm that it's not actually overheating? I hear that a weak water pump first shows itself at idle and low rpms.
