Are the warning labels that are on the dash of a boat a requirement for Coast Guard and other checks? I am looking for a spot to locate some switches and found a spot on the dash area that would be perfect....unfortunately it is the same spot as the Warning label about operator needing to be in control or can cause injury or death. I am thinking I will just go over the label, but want to make sure I am not breaking a law or anything. I am assuming boat manufacturer needs to put it there for liability issues.

There are some required labels for boats to have. One is a warning not to "dump oil into the water". There is at least one more, but I don't think the one you cited is it.

BTW - none of my boats have any of those labels. I think they are too old. I hope the requirement is "grandfathered out".

If your boat is under 26' feet none are required. The one you mentioned sounds like the makers CYA warning.

Capacity plate is one other requirement along with the oil warning and maybe sewerage discharge warning. The rest warn us that boating will injure you and your passengers, maybe even kill someone. Saves insurance companies from doing what insurance companies are supposed to do!

The rest are like this one;

Check your state requirements.

For example, in CA, I don't need the carbon monoxide warning labels at the helm and transom to own and operate my boat...but I need to put them on to SELL the boat in-state.
