I have been looking around on the internet for a stainless steel prop for my mercury 25hp outboard. I found one that I liked and searched around for the lowest price. I went to several web-sites and finally found one that was 18 bucks cheaper so I ordered it from them. They were boats.net and they had a good price on the prop. Well it came in today UPS and when I opend the box I was supprised to find an aluminum prop and not the stainless steel prop that I ordered.

I immediatley got on the phone with them only to find out that customer service didnt exist with them. The guy on the phone didnt seem real excited to be speaking to me and explained how their sucky return policy worked. I have to get on the internet go to their web-site and fill out a return form so I can get a RMA return something. Well I did that and they sent me an email saying to print the one they just sent me and return it with the wrong prop they sent me. I have to be out the money to ship it back to them and after they receive it I then have to wait 2-3 weeks for them to mail me a check.

That is redicilous to have to wait that long and be out money for their mistake and I have no prop. When or if I ever see my money I can promise you that they wont get anymore of my money. They call that customer servise ??? What a joke. I can tell you this, Years ago I ordered a ss prop from cabelas for my GT-150 evinrude and the one they sent me was bad. I got on the phone with them and that day a new one was on the way no questions asked. I have always been done fair by cabelas and bass pro. Just wanted to let you guys in on my experience with Boats.net they suck.....

Just a thought--
Look up Powertech propellers. They are located about 35miles from me and I've bought a stailess prop from them and still have it, it's been excellent as well. Good price.
I'll get you their phone number if you want it. Can't hurt to give 'em a call.
They come polished standard as well, unlike the brushed appearance of my dad's merc prop.

If you used a credit card, call the credit card company and have them remove the charge from your account. Explain that boats.net is giving you a hard time about their mistake and won't correct the problem. You don't have to go through what boats.net want you to do to get your money back. If boats.net contacts you about sending their aluminum prop back, tell them to send you a prepaid UPS sticker. You should not have to spend more money to correct their mistake.

Why didn't you buy the prop from iboats??

You would have gotten the right prop the first time, and superior customer service.

Re: Warning Stay Away From This Place !!!

was the 18 bucks worth it? do a charge back on your CC, and return the prop. that it as a sesson learned.

i had a similar situation, differenet site. on a steering wheel, they charged my account, then sent me an email, saying it was back ordered 6 weeks. i sent emails cancelling the order, called their non existant customer service, charged back the CC. 8 weeks later i got a steering wheel i did not need.

even after the charge back, they still sent the wheel. how do they make any money.

I agree on the chargeback. You'll get all of you money back, including shipping, from the orig order and it'll only cost $7 to USPS it back to them. Your CC company will need the tracking # to process the chargeback and you'll normally have your money back in 24hours.

I ordered a pool liner last year from a cheapo place which advertised 'exact replacement'. Well, it turned out it was 'exact' only for 4' pools with no deep end. Installed the liner only to have it hover above the bottom. Took it out, called them, and they said "It's now used if you opened the box". Chargebacks exist for a reason. Still cost me $50 to ship it back, but that's way less than I paid for it. Lesson learned. Pay more from a real place, get more.

I think one of the best card companies to have in a situation like this is AMEX. A lot of business do not like taking AMEX because they have a good reputation for customer support, but do charge a little more. I think a good company would have provided you a prepaid return shipping label. Like eveyone says, take it with a grain of salt and lesson learned. I think this is just a bad employee not watching the order invoice. This type of behavior does cause companies grief.

iboats is always the first choice for parts at the best price.but maybe every once in a while give your local marine dealer ,not the monster places out there and maybe they will have the ss prop you need, ya can put your hands on and will in this marketplace deal to the best of his ability with you.make a reasonable offer and who knows....whats the worst he can say....no?

Paypal has always struck me a mickey mouse, its ok for the home operator making a couple of bucks out of the garage.

But if a bank won't work with a business neither will I.

I'll second iBoats customer service, every bit as good as Cabelas, real pro's.

Re: Warning Stay Away From This Place !!!

This question might be a bit off the subject, but it does involve customer service to an extent. I emailed info@kencook.com about an owner manual and
service manual for my 9.5 HP Johnson motor and I have not received any response whatsoever. My buddy has had good luck with them, but they seem
to refuse to respond to my inquiry. How good are the Seloc manuals you see
on this site? What about Clymer manuals? www.outboardbooks.com may
be another place to stay away from if they are not going to answer a customer's question about a needed manual.

Re: Warning Stay Away From This Place !!!

Update , I got my refund back from Boats.net to my Paypal account. It only took 3 days after they received the prop back. I have to say that I have had Paypal for about 8 years now and I sell and buy alot on ebay and they have always taken good care of me. I dont know about anyone else but they seem to love me. I reordered the prop from iboats today and UPS is showing delivery tues-17 I cant wait. I sure hope iboats gets it right the first time because im tired of waiting.

I've been using Paypal since the beginning of time. Nothing but good experiences...they have gotten moeny back for me on more than one occassion. Forget the banks. eBay bought Paypal, and seems to be in better financial shape than the banks.

I am an Audio Video business owner. I fight internet sales sites every day. I don't care what they are selling, if they are the cheapest, or even if they are not the cheapest, you will have a hard time if something goes wrong. BUY LOCALLY!!! It is the only way you are assured of good customer service after the sale!!! The return policy is usually the same for all discount internet sales sites, YOU pay return shipping. Sales departments are staffed with many people, service departments have the janitor answer the phone if he hears it while he walks by the phone on his way to the coffee machine. Any internet purchase has a certain degree of risk that is higher than if you go to a local source and pay a little bit more. Support your local boat shop, and it will pay off the first time you have a problem. (This assumes that the boat shop wants your repeat business, as that's the only way to grow and survive in business.)

Paypal..... Now that's a joke if I ever heard one.

I use paypal for ebay purchases. But I always have a zero balance in my account so I can put the entire transaction on my credit card. So if I ever have a problem the cc will do the charge back and to heck with paypal. Been there done that. Apparently my CC is not too impressed with paypal, as soon as I mention paypal, they do the chargeback no questions asked.

Also, as soon as I receive any funds from Paypal, I have it deposited into a savings account. That way idiots who pay then complain, have no balance for paypal to debit from.
