I know it is a common problem with the plastic float bowls on the mid 80's V4 motors. Has anyone been successful in sanding them on a flat plate to resolve the issue with sealing?
I know the newer brown rubber gaskets are much better than the old "paper" type, and i got my carbs to seal (1987 Johnson 90hp) , but there is no question the bowls are slightly warped.

I will replace them with either a good set from a parts motor, or order a pair of the metal bowls over the winter.

Just curious if anyone had lapped the plastic flat using a flat plate, belt sander, or something else? obviously a thorough cleaning is in order after the fact..

Re: Warped plastic Float bowls

Happy I used a piece of 1000 grit wetsand paper on a thick (3/8")sheet of glass and sanded with a figure 8 motion. I took a long time but it removed enough material to allow the bowls to seal better. The problem that caused mine to warp was when I rebuilt them I overtightened the bowl.
It can be done but if they are severly warped get new ones! A motor on fire will definately ruin a good day and leaking fuel into the water can ruin the fishing and/or swimming.
