Has anyone had problems with Four Winns not honoring Warranty claims from their dealers?

I purchased a new H180 and before the selling dealer could prep the boat & install the bimini top he went out of business and told me to pick up my boat.

Four Winns corporate reffered me to another dealer saying that since I have already paid for the service the new dealer could file a warranty claim and Four Winns would honor it...OR I could pay for the services and they would reimburse me.

The dealer refused to file a warranty claim saying that Four Winns didn't always honor their claims and he didn't want to take a chance of not getting paid. He also wished me luck in getting my money back from Four Winns.

So...has anyone had a hassle with Four Winns not paying their dealers's warranty claims?

Re: Warranty Issues With Four Winns?

I just took my H240 in for its first 50 hr. service. I had a few minor problems with my Bim Top and the wind door loosing some screws after a few months on the water. I also had a small leak in the hydrolic lines. I was first told that nothing was under warranty and then they changed their take when I stated the boat wasn't even a year old! When I went to pick up the boat nothing was done  I hope they take care of things. I love the boat, but I have also had a Sea Ray and never once had warranty issues. If this continues I will not purchase another Four Winns!

Re: Warranty Issues With Four Winns?

I've had a few issues with getting warranty work done by Four Winns since there are no dealers in my area. Getting them to do anything is like pulling teeth. It took a call right up to Jeffery C. Olson to get warranty work done on my 318.

You really have to get in their face almost everyday.

I for one am not impressed with Four Winns customer service, and this will probably be the last Four Winns I buy.

Plus I have been eyeing the Sabre 42S. Now they know how to make boats!

Re: Warranty Issues With Four Winns?

I met up with a former field Rep for Mercury Marine engines and he explained that the dealers do not always get full reimbursement from the company for warranty work.

He went on to say that a premier dealer may get up to 70% reimbursement while a dealer with less volume may get maybe 40%. I mentioned this to my new Four Winns dealer while checking on the status of my boat and he confirmed it. No wonder they dread warranty work. Everyone should get paid for all the work they do.

While sympathizing with the dealer's situation I still expect to get the quality and the performance I paid for. My Four Winns dealer did explain that I would pay him for the work done and that the Four Winns Rep had agreed to reimburse me 100% in the name of customer goodwill.

I'll let you all know how this plays out.
