Was Running a minute ago?

Started up my 82' 115 to check all systems before tomorrows run. Started up after after 2 or 3 attempts, then ran like usual at idle....a little rough , but the engine was cold after not being run for a month or so in north east here, but eventually came around to smooth idle.

After just a couple of minutes she stopped cold. No sputters, just done. Cranked it a few times, but nothing. WOn't fire. Spark is there, kind of looks good. Starter is turning nicely. Just won't start? Took the cover to the air filter off and gave her a shot of starting fluid as it was cranking...still nothing?

Can't tell if it is electrical or fuel problem. Any ideas appreciated.

I say that I took off the cover to the air filter, but actually it's just the cover to the carbs. Once off, you can look right at the butterflys opening and closing as you adjust the throttle. This is where I was shooting starting fluid...but still nothing. So at this point, wouldn't I be bypassing the whole carb thing?

11craigt,

Remove the engine cover and check your fuse. There should be a red fuse holder separate the 2 halves and remove and check that fuse could have blown it. Also, make sure you didn't accidently pull your kill switch on the remote control at the driver seat, make sure it is in the normal position. If all are good make sure you are getting good lightening blue spark at each of those spark plugs if you are make sure that you pump the fuel bulb up firm and make sure you engage your choke as you crank her over. Let us know what you find

If the fuse was blown it wouldn't even crank. If you have spark then its a timing or fuel issue.

I would not use starting fluid as an all the time thing, but I have used it. If it doesn't fire with starting fluid you've got weak or no spark or the compression is so low it won't fire. Doubt it's the compression I would check the spark.

Thanks to everybody for your replies. I will let you know what I run into. First I now need a new starter gear...guess that is what it is called - the one that flicks up and engages the flywheel. I chewed all the teeth off of it. It has been progressively getting more and more worn out. Anyone know where you can get just this gear?
