was this a good buy, and what should I spend on it?

Hey all,
I have posted these pics before, but didn't get much info, probably because I didn't ask properly!
I bought this for $800, did I do ok? I am trying to figure out what to restore on it, and to what extent, so I don't lose money on resale. I really bought this to make a quick buck, and then buy another and do the same.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Jim.

Boat looks pretty nice for $800.00. That patch on the floor looks suspicious. It could have meant that there was a rot problem. If so, you could be in for a floor and stringer job. You need to check out the transom for any rot as well.

Also you should check out the mechanicals. Pull the outdrive, check the ujoints, gimbal bearing and the alignment. Check the OD lubricant for any water contamination, hook it up to the MM ears and run it.

IMHO it is pretty hard to do much work on these boats and make any money on them.

Looks good! If that motor is in decent shape alone you got a good deal. I guess just go through the normal routine.... check for soft spots and keep an eye out for patchwork done by any previous owners.

sorry, here's a little more info...
chevy 350, runs great! no smoke, etc.. . .
new gas tank(that's why the carpet is pulled up there)
1 soft spot on the starboard side, 1'x1' to be replaced.
all else seems well.

you did well, watch what you spend if your intentions are to turn it over. i hate carpet, but would recarpet and sell it. this is a bad time to be flipping boats. i know, i'm a flipper.

Looks like the floor under the driver side console sags,
the top edge of the windshield doesn't line up.
A quick fix, spit and polish and then sell it.

Looks great for $800. I would have taken it in a blink on an eye. New carpet, outer hull polish and check the floor and transom for soft spots. Tap with rubber malet and see if it sounds like soild wood. If you know how to i would put new fabric over those seats, old ugly color to me. Not that bad though, some clean up and you should get 1500-2000. Maby more bad market for anything. I had a good run with fliping mopeds over the sumer but even that slowed down i was getting up to $1000 for mopeds i put a few 100 into.

From a buyers perspective, the upholstery looks faded and dry. Detracts from the overall appeal of the boat. Try something like Armor All cleaner and treatment for the vinyl and see if some life comes back.

I think its really neat, has that 70's diner look to the upholstery work. Rather unique and a big part of the appeal, so the better it looks, the more the perceived value will be.

Thanks for all the help, it does have the 70's look. Any ideas where I can put a disco ball? Ha ha,lol.
I'm thinking vinyl paint. I have had a lot of luck using that on seats, and interior parts. Should run about $70 total for interior paint/dye, $100 in floor repair, and $70 for carpet. The trailer needs painted, and a few pinstripes here and there wouldn't hurt. . .
I'm thinking I'll have $1500 total invested, so will plan on $2000;)
and hope to have some fun with it before I sell it.
Any ideas where to get cheap carpet in Columbus Ohio???
...tashasdaddy.. thanks for the response especially, I have posted a few times in the past week, and you have replied to all of them, thanks for looking out for us "greenhorns"! you too mark42

Good Luck. It is not that easy to make $$ on old boats, especially if there is any rott. Just wondering if you would make more by parting it out. Maybe someone else can comment.

Have a great day,

Rob.

I hear You there. My only "advantage" is that it gives my Father and I something to "tinker" with, and a reason to escape the girlfriend for a while!;)
..for some reason, she doesn't like my new 20' Girlfriend. lol!
I own a small repair business, so on my days I don't have work(which may increase now that I have a new toy!) Me and Captain Pappy will work on this, and our other boat together. Memories, right?

That's dangerous, if you take it out for some fun you wont want to sell it! Happens to me all the time that's why my barn is packed with toys :D
