Not quite the point but don't slow down when you pass another boat.
I have never understood the thinking behind this as it makes 4X as much wake as running WOT.
Look back next time you are out and see how much wake you make at speed, little or none, and how much you make going slow with the transom plowing water, huge deadliest catch type waves.
My boat on plane makes a 3'' wake and a 2' wake going slow, I never slow down, just give them as much room as the situation allows.
I grew up running around in canoes and always hated when people did that cause the wake is so much worse, I understand they are trying to be curtious but it only makes things worse.
As to your problem, if it only happened once I wouldn't wory about it, probably just one of those things.
Sorry, that is one of my pet peeves.
