a buddy asked me if he could store my pontoon for me this past winter(indoor) and in the early spring take it on the lake he butts up to. i agreed, as we have known one another for 25 years. early spring comes, he calls and says come get the boat that he doesnt have time to take it out. i agreed, brought it home and started to clean, shine, buff etc... BLAM!!! STUNG IN THE FACE 4 TIMES. LIP,NOSE TWICE ON CHEEK. what an ungodly pain. i was enraged after all was said and done, sat back and licked my wounds. i found 12 wasps nest thru out the entire pontoon. come to find out that my friend of 25 yrs knew and didnt bother to tell me he just didnt want to DEAL with it. what would you do??? what would you say???

Re: wasps

Use wasp spray and drop the subject. A 25 year friendship is worth more a few wasp bites.

Re: wasps

I guess he figured you'd find them, and you did. Makes you wonder where people keep their brains! How could you have any confidence in the man's thought processing after that? Maybe leave the guy alone...he could get you killed!

Weeelllll, at least you got free storage out of it, if you do it again, you will be prepared the next spring.

When we stored ours we put Bounce dryer sheets all over inside. Stored it at a farm in a shed, when they were combining soybeans, and the there were ladybugs everywhere, we where sure they would infiltrate the cover, but nope not a one. Guess the sheets worked and it smelled good to boot.

Re: wasps

+1 for the dryer sheets. I use them in my RV and never have a problem. I put them in my boat once when I was on a lengthy trip. Keeps lots of critters out.

Re: wasps

call him an ***, have some beers with him, and get out on the boat. A few stings isnt worth a 25 year friendship. Hard enough to find good friends now adays

Re: wasps

Man, I'm cautious every time I take the cover off by boat, even if it's only been a few days or a week. My suggestion is to always suspect something to be angry with you under that boat cover.

Have a few beers (on your buddy of course!!) and lightly bring up "what were you thinking", etc..

I'll have to try the drier sheets trick. Very cool if it works!!

Re: wasps

The dryer sheets will work. Trust me.. I've used them now for 10+ years in my boats, RV's and in some furniture that I stored for over a year. We also keep them in the attic to prevent critters up there.

BTW. Moth balls will work even better if you can tolerate the smell.
