Waste Tank Overflow Problem

Any suggestions to isolate this problem?...

New boat purchased last year... 30' CC... JABSCO Marine Toilet Model 37010... Set up for dock pump out or macerator pump out offshore...

Have noticed that the waste tank is filling while underway - then overflowing into the bilge... Y Valve for external discharge is locked in the off position, seacock is open...

Reporting the problem to the builder, but just curious if anyone might have experienced something similar... I just don't want the builder to tell me that I need to open and close the seacock between uses - that's not the correct answer... I suspect some type of flakey valve in the flush system allowing water to be forced through...

Re: Waste Tank Overflow Problem

why do you want the waste sea **** open when you have the y valve set to the holding tank? He probably will tell you to close the waste sea **** . there are check valves that can be installed but there just something else to go wrong...get clogged up etc.... IMHO

18rabbit:... Thanks for the reply... lots of good info in that article...

flashback:... There is no Output sea**** on this installation, since it is above water... The opened sea**** is the supply to the flush and needs to be open to use head... I had the same exact installation on my last boat and it worked fine...

Re: Waste Tank Overflow Problem

How did you observe the level in the holding tank rising while underway (a polyethylene tank)?

What would cause the tank to over-flow into the bilge? There shouldn't be any means of this happening. The mascerator goes to a thru-hull, the other discharge line goes to the vac-out fitting. The vent goes to a thru-hull and the fourth line runs from the head mascerator discharge fitting.

The seacock connects to the flexible impeller cavity of the Jabsco pump and if properly installed should act as a valve to prevent water coming in when it is not spinning. If it does not seal, as I recall (I've only rebuilt the one I have once) water could pass into the bowl/brass impeller discharge area and then pass through the joker valve and down to the holding tank. However, if the raw water inlet to the pump is above water line then maybe your boat speed is sufficient to force water up into the flexible impeller area. I think you can get a schematic of the pump on Jabsco's web site.

navigator 336: See embedded response...

How did you observe the level in the holding tank rising while underway (a polyethylene tank)?
DPF> Launched boat last week after winter layup... When I got it to my home dock I notice the water in the forward bilge... Since the waste system is the only other thing in that area (and assuming that the area was dry from the start)- I thru the Y valve and pumped it out as well... Took quite awhile, and color was clear an light pink from winterization - thus I further assume that the waste tank filled and overflowed into the bilge...

What would cause the tank to over-flow into the bilge?
