Some of you ... [corm and JB for certain] have helped with the problems I have been having with a Mariner 3.5hp losing power after 10 mins running. I tested it again today and it would appear that if air gets trapped in the fuel pipe [this is a gravity feed outboard] then it restricts the flow after some 10 minutes running ... after repeatedly tapping the fuel pipe and watching the in-line filter [I added to filter out tank rust!] I could see the air in the filter and finally pulled the pipe off and held it downwards from the tank with my finger over the end and waited until all the air had been replaced by petrol and reattached the pipe. It ran for 30 mins without any further problem so hopefully this is the end to the problem? I thought I would pass this on as so many people seem to suffer from this loss of power after running for a while and it may? affect engines with fuel pumps? I accept that I may have 'introduced' this by adding the in-line filter but like I sadi it may help others?

Re: Watch for air bubbles in fuel!!!

I am a happy bear again! The lovely sweet ol' motor ran happily for over an hour this afternoon until I ran the tank dry and air was in the pipe again and it started its old tricks until I bled the pipe and it was fine again ... I'm thinking that the original problem was probably rust from the tank blocking the pipes, jets, etc up and now the inline filter is causing air locks - wish I could easily fit a pump ... still I will just have to remember to check/topup the fuel level after 45 mins! Thanks again to all who helped ;-)

Re: Watch for air bubbles in fuel!!!

could that filter also be restricting fuel?
