Water alarm is still going off

I recently had a problem with water in the bottom cylinder...I also had the water alarm constantly going off. The water in the cylinder was because of the exhaust cover gasket being faulty. After removing the cover and drilling out many of its bolts as it was corroded, we finally were able to replace the gasket and attach the exhaust cover on. Now we have no leakage in the bottom cylinder.

We tried the boat in the water and the water alarm is still going off...periodically. And it goes off most of the time, or almost all of the time. I did a thermostat check and placed it in boiling water...it opens and cloeses nicley. It kind of feels like the top two cylinders are still hotter than the bottom. Does the water flow sensor actually 'float' in water??? We did a test in a pot of water and it doesnt really float which is what i expected as it is a 'FLOW' sensor which should tell you if water is actually circulating throughout the top end.

Also the manual says that there could be possible misplaced or damaged 'water passage restrictors' and the manual doesn not state exactly what or where this type of thing is. I am assuming it is the passageways around the cylinder head and etc, and that it could be blocked.

Hope someone here knows what kind of problem i possibly might have.....

its quite possible the float or the float pin are going bad or sticking. the sensor is just a float switch. they fail sometimes. in 91 it was the only water sensor it had. there is no overtemp sensor on that engine. in 92 they incorperated a temp sensor.

The flow sensor is brand spankin new and installed at the end of last season. It doesnt stick at all and moves quite freely. My dad removed the thermostat and ran the engine in the water. He said that the alarm is not going off anymore. Still i reccomended that he not run the engine for too long without a thermostat. This kind of tells me that there might be an obstruction somewhere and needs to be flushed. I am still going to buy a new thermostat and flush adaptor. What else would you reccomend that i do? How about installing a temp sensor? Is it expensive and hard to do? I notice there is a little plug on the top head with a square fitting that is possible for use in a temp sensor.
