JUst bought a Water Bug Outboard w/1 spark plug.Appears to be air cooled.
Anyone know anything about these little motors? HP, oil mix, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Found in a backyard sale for 15 bucks laying in some weeds. Actually pretty clean and it fired right up at24:1 oil mix but I shut it off after 15 sec because I didn't know if my fuel mixture was right.
Thanks Much John Made by J&J Recreation Inc. Just found tag and it says Mercury Marine & ser# 8099352

Re: Water Bug Outboard

Sounds like you got a great deal. Only water bug I have heard of where 1920's era Johnson's. How about some photos to share with us all.
I think 24 to 1 ratio should be safe but I am no expert on these motors. Richest mixture I have ever used was 20 to 1 on a Yamaha FS1-E motor cycle.

It's probably a little Tanaka motor. Post a picture of it and I can ID it for you.
