Hey everyone,

I've been working on a 78 cvx16ss glastron (140 4 cly inline GM)for some time now.. The whole lower unit, gimble housing, drive shaft, U joints. you name it, was replaced or inspected. then re-assembled. Today was to be her first splash down. So my son and I went to the launch and backed her into the water.

Well that's when we had water coming in. so I kicked on the bilge pump and it seemed to keep up. As I was frantically looking for where this water was coming in I just couldn't find the "Smoking Gun".... I know Ha ha, did you put the plug in? well yeah i wish it would have been that simple.

Anyways I couldn't find the leak so i put her back on the trailer. My thoughts are the big O ring seal by the Ujoints could have been installed improperly. The bellows boot and shift cable boot are new and don't look to be the culprit. I did see some water coming out of either hole on the lower unit, the holes are the diameter of your finger and they are down low, looks more like a though passage then anything. but water seemed to be flowing from that area.

Any input from the field would be great. My plans are to remove the lower unit abd inspect the seal but what else should i be looking for. And where else could the water be coming from.

Also i thought before doing that i would just flood the engine compartment up to just under any electronics, starter, ect. and see if the water comes out some place.

So I guess I am polling the minds to see what my options are.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

I supose you can fill it with water, but thats not a great test. easiest wat for that would have been to back it in on the trailer and leave the pump off then pull it back out and see if the water came out.

Do you nave a live well? or any other such things?
Id still look to the bellows or the exhaust where it bolts to the gimble housing.
