We noticed a small trickle of water coming into the bildge from the back plate?,while we where boating. The bildge pump seemed to run alot so thats why we looked. It's an 1999 18' Welcraft with a 305 chev and a mercruiser outdrive. I don't know what series outdrive it is yet but what do you suppose is leaking and how tough a job to repair. I'm pretty good with a socket and wrench...Regards,........Tom

I would suspect one of your bellows has a hole in it. I would replace the 2 and probaly do a shift cable since your there and its all fresh. 10 years old .

You suggested "bellows". Does the lower unit need to be removed to replace these? Can you suggest a web site that shows the parts and diagram of these bellows?.......Regards......Tom

The drive needs to be removed, manuals are in the adults section along with a factory installation manual.

yes you need to remove the drive to replace the bellows.

To replace the bellows it requires special tools etc. If you have a shop do it will cost some $$$. not an easy job at all.

are you sure your leaking from the bellows??? there is alot of other things it could be also. Y pipe, thru hull fittings, cracked block ,manifolds etc. The easy thing to do is pull the drive and see if there is water in the bellows. If there is no water in the bellows then put it in the water and find out exactly what is going on with a mirror and a flashlight. Do you get any water when running on the muffs?? For a diagram go to the adult only sticky on the top of this forum and download the manual for your drive.

Water will not leak from the plate if it was a manifold, engine block- Y pipe etc...

I bet if you put the boat back in the water with your outdrive all the way up and no engine running it will leak pretty good.

You only need a bellows tool , get off ebay $25.00 -35.00.
Yes they can be a pain , just don't have any small childeren around when doing it and use bellows adhesive.

Re: Water coming into the bildge

We have not done the suggested leak tests yet but i did get some pictures to share. The numbers on the outdrive are (1.50R and 5722568). Something here does not look right to me. Is this outdrive missing a part? Could you all discribe the parts that i've labeled A thru H please......Regards.......Tom

fastback4 - you need to go read the manuals for your drive. If you want to fix it right, read until you know the parts.

Your issue could be a rotten transom, too. It was on mine. Bellows is a cheap, easy place to start, though.

The shift cable bellows looks to be torn... But if you do the shift you may as well buy a shift cable and a ujoint bellows and do them all at once.
