I have water coming out of the rubber coupler on my exhaust pipe. At least when it is idling there is water coming out but I'm not sure if it is coming out at higher RPM's. It didn't seem like my sump was filling up anyway?

I just replaced the head gasket because of a 125PSI versus a 155PSI cylinder check. The head gasket looked like it was leaking. The motor starts a lot better now anyway.

The coupler clamps were a little loose and I tightened them when I got home but have not taken it out again. I thought I had better ask here first.

It is in a 1972 Glastron Carlson. It was running well and died. I removed the cover and started it and when it was idling I seen the water coming from coupler on the exhaust pipe. I headed for the dock and it ran fine all the way back and started it a few times at the dock. I'm not sure why it died when I was going around 4500 RPM's,(seems to be the top , maybe a little low?) Anyway it just kept revving down, died and restarted and ran fine.

I'm just not sure if the clamps were just too loose and let water out or if there is a problem that should be fixed. I tried to search and seen a few things about a shutter but really don't know what that is. Could that be it? I did have the coupler off and I pulled the head and reinstalled with the exhaust attached.

Thanks for any suggestions or opinions.

Probably just time for a new one, as they get old and hard with age.

+1, Also if it was ever run without water for even several seconds the hot exhaust gas will melt them from the inside and they will look perfect on the outside.

Thanks, that sounds like good news and a fairly easy fix. I'm glad that it was not a sign of some kind of catastrophic failure or something.
