I have an 85 40 horse evinrude that i was able to get running with help from this web site. recently bought a tube and while tubing noticed water coming out of the exhaust port on the back of the motor. spits a little at low speeds and pours out at wide open. is this normal? I drained the gear oil and found no water.

If it comes out the exhaust, that is not only normal, that is good. the engine sucks up water from the lake and cools the engine with it and spits it out the exhaust and or tell tail

thanks for the reply. so water should be coming out of the exhaust port and the drain hose form the waterpump?

that is correct. and the flow will increase with engine speed as the pump is connected directly to the driveshaft.
