Went to change oil in outdrive yesterday and found the hose disconnected from the water connector on top of the Lower. After closer inspection the connector is corroded and needs replacement. Whats the best way to replace it? Can it be done without dropping the lower?

Dropping the lower will not help at all. You need to remove the upper box, and you can expect the fasteners to be corroded in also, and may need to apply heat to remove. Very common issue on these drives.

No need to remove the complete outdrive, just removing the upper gear box will get you access to the hose connection. While you are replacing the hose connector, might consider the ujoint bellows if it's more than 2 years old. You get water in those bellows, and the water gets into the bearings of the flywheel cover, you WILL be removing the engine.
Here is a thread that covers removing the upper gear box, it's a very easy job. You can replace the bellows, the hose connector, and put the drive back together in 1 to 2 hours depending on your tools and abilities.
