Hi Boaters,

When I run my 2004 EFI 60hp on hose (after changing impeller) I noticed water flowing out of a small hole in the gear case. Is that supposed to be like that? I fail to upload picture... but is just in front of the screw connecting gearcase engine closest to the stern of the boat. Its pouring straight down. So.. a small hole in the horizontal "flange" where the bolts are.

Water is flowing nicely through the normal tell-tale and engine seems to cool. It was 110F something after 10min of idling.

Temp sounds fine. Tell tale fine. Did you have the stream prior to dropping the LU? What did you touch besides replacing the impeller....realizing you have to drop the LU and pop the top on the water pump, plus put the key in the impeller. Any gaskets around the water tube you may have left out? Sure you got a clean stab with the water tube?

Well, I'm not sure. Not running on hose too much. Haven't noticed it before but might have been there.

Did the stuff you mention. Gaskets and key should be there.

Not sure what clean stab means..is it same as the water tube nicely slided in to the impeller casing? Quite sure it did.

Clean stab refers to stabbing the water tube into the block, or interconnecting tube that runs to the block....don't know which design your engine uses. Since things seem to be working as designed, I'd take it out and run without the cowl so that you could personally monitor the engine block temp. Run it hard for a few minutes and if it stays warm to the touch, close it up and go have fun!

Casting cavities in gear cases need a drain hole.------Drive by your friendly boat shop , buy a gallon of oil and ask them to explain these little details to you.

Thanks! the interconnection is through a a plastic guide/adaptor and it's quite easy to line up, and since the tell-tale has good flow it I guess it likely connected well.

Yepp, will take a spin and monitor temp, have a bluetooth vesselview module on so I can montior cooling water temp that way.
