I have a 1976 35 hp evinrude and when i run the engine water comes out of the two cooling holes up top just fine. But it also comes out of the two holes right behind the steering collar on the exhaust housing. wondering if tho is right?

Re: water flow on 35 hp evinrude

ok so i looked at the holes a little closer and i can see the driveshaft throughout them. i'm kinda wondering now because i would think water would get in there just from running the boat because of how low they are. now whether or not it should be pumping out of there i'm still not sure. there is a spacer with o-rings that goes on top of the water pump that the driveshaft runs through. i'm thinking maybe if the o-rings were leaking then that might be it, i'm not sure any help would be greatly appreciated.

alright never mind after searching for two days i found another thread that explains what these holes are. they are drain holes for water that escapes out from the top of the water pump. so everything is good except i probably just need some new o-rings on that spacer to minimize it.
