Water flow path in my 120 force

Hello all. I'm dealing with a hot running 1990 120 force, suprise,
Suprise. Anyway t-stat is cooked with chalky,sandy debris in housing. I removed exaust cover and found more sand in bottom of engine in lower galley and behind exaust plate between cover and plate. Ut oh, seems as previous owner maybe ran in a sandbar and didn't flush out as quick as I would have. Well I'm planning on replacing the impeller and gaskets along with the exaust plate which warped on removal and was wondering the best way to make sure and flush the remaining sand from the engine. Any advise? Thx.

Unless the stainless plate is damaged or cracked, save some money and reuse it. They ALL warp from the exhaut heat.

Water floe is in from the bottom near the dogleg at the exhaust. it then flows through the cover and around the exhaust chest. It then flows out the top of the chest and around the cylinders. Finally, when the thermostat opens, it goes down the head and empties into the midleg. Some blows out with exhaust and some exits the two idle relief vents in the back of the midleg shroud.

If you have as much debris as you say, it would be wise to remove the head and check the cylinder water jacket--clean as necessary. Remove the head cover--carefull: Don't snap the bolts--and clean the head jacket.
