Hi all, I am new to the board and hope to get an answer and to become part of a group of people that enjoy their baoting hobby like I do.
I have a 97 Merc 225 EFI O/B, that I recently noticed the tale tell water stream was not strong as it was/should be. I immediately decided to put an impeller kit on. I pulled the lower unit off and when removing the housing, I thought that everything looked as to be pretty good condition. I installed the new kit (quicksilver) and installe the lower unit back up.
Here is what appears to be a problem...
I saw this before changing the impeller also and thought it would be fixed. There is water coming out between the lower unit and the motor lower housing. Right at the crack, squirting out pretty good with pressure. This is telling me that the housing is filling up inside with water, that I believe is not supposed to happen. I am hoping that this may be a common problem that I can fix. I believe the reason my tale tell water stream is not very powerful becouse the water is losing pressure by escaping intp the open housing area where water should not even be at.
The motor does not appear to be overheating, as the temp at idle trolling is around 180 degrees, but will drop to about 160 when speed and RPMs pick up. The motor seems to run OK, but did run a little rough until I changed the plugs and now seem to sound better.
Thanks for any and all information you can give.
