Water flow question - 1994 15HP

Happy Holidays. I just picked up a 1994 15HP which starts on the 1st pull and seems to run perfectly. Water flows from the pee hole immediately and gets hot as the motor warms up, but water never flowed out of the back of the engine (the upper exhaust port) even after it was good and warm. Is this normal? I've always had older motors and seem to recall the water always coming out of the exhaust port. Thank you for your comments.

were you running in a barrel, on muffs, or in the river?

Thanks. 1st in a barrel, then with muffs. Same thing both ways, the water only came from the pee hole. I let it run for awhile thinking if the thermostat needed to heat up to open, it would do that. Neither way, water never came from the exhaust port.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? The motor doesn't seem to get too hot running in the barrel at fairly high rpm's, but I don't want to run it if there should be water flowing out of the exhaust port. Thank you.

When they get hot they get HOT- you know if it's overheating by the touch, you probably don't have the backpressure needed to come out the exhaust port, take it out on the lake and try it.
