Welcome to iboats.

You probably need to use a larger bucket so that water is high enough on the lower unit to allow water to enter the water pump, which is usually at least up to & over the cavitation plate.

When using muffs, be careful to modulate the pressure from full household pressure so as to not blow gaskets or seals.

If you need more help respond back here & othergood guys will help, or go back to the Frequently Asked Questions on the start of this forum & on the 2nd page you will find a link to my LeeRoy's Ramblings to 9.9/15hp OMCs. There I cover a lot on these motors.

Or just google leeroys ramblings

I've had 'em '****' great on muffs, but not in a barrel (deep enough to cover the waterpump 'bulge'). Changed out the impeller and all was well. You kinda bypass a weak impeller w/muffs. Also, make sure the stainless plate the impeller sits on is nice and flat.. otherwise it won't seal.. or pump effectively. Good luck!
