Water from Exhaust ports

Is it normal for lots of water to spray out of the exhaust ports on a
merc inline 6 115hp 1986 motor.

Yes. Water is carried by exhaust coming out the relief ports, when underway.

You won't see a lot of water coming out the ports when you run the motor out of the water, on a flusher. Not enough back pressure to carry the water out.

In that case, most of the water will flow directly down the 'leg' and out the center of the propeller.
