I have a 1979 80 HP inline 4 cyl. There are 2 small rectangular holes at the back bottom
of the cowling which I believe to be the exhaust ports. Is it normal for water to
come out of those??

I had the motor completely rebuilt at the start of the season and I never noticed this before,
but this w/e I noticed water coming out of that area, I don't mean a little, it was literally
'shooting' out and that has me a little concerned. If it's normal, that's fine, but if not I'd like
to know so I can immediately take it back to where I got it rebuilt.

Thanx! Bill.:)

Yes its normal for water to spit out of upper ports and on the muffs most will come out of prop exhaust.....cools things down.

Those are idle relief ports. When the motor is in neutral, in the water, cooling water and exhaust have backpressure. Exhaust and water will therefore exet those holes. Of course it is a real simple system, so water may exit while on plane and other times. Not to worry....

Re: Water from exhaust ports??

Thanx-a-bunch for the replys guys!!:)

I'm glad I asked before I went back to the mechanic bitching &
moaning and otherwise making a fool of myself:redface:

I guess I just hadn't noticed it before, but I must have turned around just at
a point when the motor was turned and I saw water gushing out those ports,
so then I was immediately conscious of it for the rest of the weekend and
was realy worried something was out of whack!!:redface::rolleyes:

She really does run great after the rebuild, but I'm just a little hypervigilant
that nothing is gonna happen to it!!
