Water from telltale

j115tlco 1985 I cant remember if water is suppose to come from the telltale with the engine not ruining? When I start the engine the water comes out stronger. Can someone give me a link for testing the thermostat I cant find one. Thanks for the help. Rainman.

Old school way to test the stats are: pull them out, boil water on the stove, put in thermometer, the stats should open between 140-160 degrees, use your thermometer to see what the water temp is then watch the stat open.
You shouldnt see much water through the telltale when not running.
