Water fuel sep hookup.....is this right?

Please excuse the child like drawing....

I put a fuel shut off inline directly coming out of the starboard tank. I'm not able to get WOT unless I push key in to choke. Carbs are clean with kits and all airblown out. This just started.....

I squeeze each of the primer bulbs trying to mimic the "push key to chock" but that does nothing. I have to keep pushing the key in and the motor then goes wide open...ugh@!

Starts amd idles perfect...just having a problem with WOT. Unscrewed and drained the fuel water sep but still the same. Will put a new F/W sep on tomorrow..

You only need one primer bulb and that goes between the filter and the outboard. Otherwise you'll push the accumulated water thru the filter and into the motor when you prime

Isn't the fuel/water seperator supposed to catch all that before it gets to the mtr ?? Besides it's eaiser to prime the system after you change the filter with his system.

Filters are gravity driven devices that are designed to work on the vacuum side of the system. Pressuring a filter pushes negates the efects of gravity and the accumulated sediment is pushed thru the filter and into the motor.

Think of a fuel filter as a vacuum cleaner bag. The vacuum cleaner work great as long as the dirt is being sucked into the bag. Not so good if you try to blow the dirt thru the bag.

The reason you can?t prime a filter is because the fuel line is air locked. Nine times out of ten the fuel pump will removed the captured air and prime the filter just fine. On the rare occasions that that doesn?t work, simply tilting the motor up so that the carb floats crack open will break the air lock in the fuel lines will allow you to prime the filter using the bulb. If worst comes to worst, cracking the fuel line somewhere between the fuel pump and primer bulb, releasing the trapped air, will solve the problem.

I'm trying to envision this but no matter how I look at it there is fuel being forcibly moved from the inlet side to the outlet side with a filter in the middle. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction (and here assuming no leakage?) so if you put say 2lb of suction on the fuel in the lines from the motor side you move the same amount of fuel at the same rate as 2lb of pressure from the tank side, right? I'm failing to see how the nature of the origin of the fuel pressure affects the function of the in-line filter.

I replaced the fuel/water seperator today and no change. Still could not get WOT unless I pushed in the key choke over and over. It did get WOT for about 10 seconds without choke but then back to 5000rpm.

Did i rund my fuel lines right as in the picture above?

A water separating fuel filter works on the principal that water is heavier than fuel leaving the water at the bottom of the bowl allowing the clean fuel to be drawn off the top. Pumping fuel thru the filter with a primer bulb will emulsify the water already trapped in the filter possibly allowing it to pass thru to your motor. Not to mention, you’ll most likely exceed the pressure of the rating of the filter (7 psi) in the process pushing even more junk thru the filter.

If the engine only runs WOT with the fuel primer activated, the engine is running lean. This is a bad situation and you need to resolve it before you have some powerhead damage. You have a fuel restriction somewhere. Could be a kinked line, restriction in the filter/head, or possible debris in the anti-siphon valve. I'd probably temporarily remove the fuel/water separator and see if that makes any difference-then go from there. That engine was not made to have a fuel water separator installed-was not a factory option. You need to make sure the filter you use will work on that engine. If you need further information on that filter, call the Bombardier customer help line in Waukegan, Ill, 847-689-7090
