I'm purchasing a 1969 22ft Reinell with a 350 engine. I'm not sure which out-drive. The owner had a hose with a fitting hooked up to the top, side of the out-drive and the water turned on. I haven't seen that used before. Can anyone tell me if this is a correct way to do it with the engine turning over. I've only seen this done with muffs or the drive in a barrel. BTW, it's a closed cooling system. We also checked out shifting the out-drive this way.

...me thinks a picture will be required for a correct answer.

My first impression was an ourdrive 'shower' but as I re-read your post, I confused myself!!!!!

You should probably start another thread asking if you should buy a boat with that drive.

Thanks for the picture it is a 1969 OMC Stringer Outdrive. It's to late to ask if I should buy the boat. Already got it.

Why would you buy a boat if you don't even know what it is equipped with? Good luck with that.

Hey, I am new to power boats and I crossed my fingers. My guess is some of these are still running. It would have been nice if I could have afforded a newer boat but for $1000 for a Reinell 22ft boat in above average condition, I went for it.

How do you know it is in above average condition when you don't know what it is you are looking at? The engine and drive are the spendy parts. You may have found a deal or you may have a hole in the water that you will be throwing money into.
