Looks like I may have a manifold issue?
I was out on the water this weekend drifting for flounder. I went to crank up the boat and the starter sounded locked, tried a few times and decided to put the dual battery switch to "both". I tried to start again and it turned over and started, the engine idled rough for a minute and then smoothed out.(both batteries are new). After another drift Iwent to crank up and it started OK but idled rough for a minute again, then smoothed out. Ran back to the dock about 10 miles running good as usual. When I got home I went to do my usual fresh water flush, this time the starter was grinding so I just shut down to check it out today. I pulled the starter and found that the end of the starter housing at the drive gear end had broken off, a clean fresh break.
With the first issue starting and having a sound like itwas was locked, I thought the possibility of hydro lock.I pulled the plugs and found about about a cup of water in the #6 cylinder. It smelled strongly of gasoline so I dipped the corner of a paper towel in it and tried to see if it would burn but it wouldn`t so I figured mostly if not all water.
I`m thinking bad riser.
It and the manifold are due for replacement.
So, I plan on pulling them tomorrow to verify. Luckily the crankcase oil is still clean and I used a large syringe with a rubber hose on the end to remove the water and fogged the cylinder with corrosion inhibtor.
Can anyone recommend a decent aftermarter replacement manifold and riser?
