After a head job, new head gasket, $511 at the machine shop, new risers & manifolds, new intake gaskets I'm still getting water in my starboard cylinders on a 2000 merc alpha 305 2bbl 220hp. She will start and run just fine but you can tell some water is getting in the oil and the spark plugs are coming out wet on that side. I thought this upper engine job would be the fix, now I'm back to square 1. Could it be a cracked intake manifold, cracked block, or bad (out of the box) riser/manifold? How do check each component? The machine shop said the head was warped and they trued it up. Very frustrated with this motor. Have had mercs for almost a decade and never had this kind of problem.

I had the same problem with my 4.3. Turns out it was a bad head gasket (new one) Either I screwed up putting it on or it was defective out of the pack. Eiter way it was bad and dumping water in #3 And #5 cylinders. After new intake, head, and exhaust gaskets it runs just fine again.

The cooling water discharges through the prop, how do I block that off? Where is the most ideal place to connect comp. air?
