Removed the head from my 89 Force 150 and have water in the lower 2 cylinders the head gasket on the second to last cylinder was broken would this allow water to drain into the bottom cylinder. Also don't know the torque for the head but seemed that the bolts that hold it on were just a little tighter than finger tight could this allow water in the cylinder?

Thanks for any help

Re: Water in cylinder

The head bolts should be very tight. With a regular hand wrench, you should need to grunt to back them off. Tightening torque is supposed to be 225 inch pounds.

Improperly tightened head bolts will contribute to damaging the head gasket and a damaged head gasket can leak water into the affected cylinder. So: first try buying a new head gasket and properly torque it in two or three stages to final torque. Use a spiral pattern from the center bolts outward to seat the gasket and avoid warping the head.
