water in cylinder

My 50 hp force started running on only one cylinder. I limped to the dock, determined it was cyl 2 dead, and pulled the spark plug.
The plug was fouled by a watery, grey goop. The compression is still 150 psi and the engine started and ran on both cylinders with a new plug. When the new plug is pulled, it shows small water droplets. Hopefully it is a bad head gasket, but the high compression has me doubtful. Any suggestions?

Leaking head gaskets (from the water passage) can still hold compression, mine just leaked and it held about 65 psi so I'm not sure about 150 but it's super easy to disassemble and determine for sure.

Water in the cyl. might give you a false high comp reading, probably a head gasket.

Before you pull the head, remove the exhaust cavity cover and check the gaskets. A bad gasket here --or loose bolts no longer sealing the gasket-- can squirt water in through the exhaust ports. The clue is the high compression indicating that the head gasket is holding pressure.

Thanks for the quick replies to my post. You guys are great---and re-assuring that I may not have a basket case.

One further observation I forgot to include in my original post was that large amounts of the grey water/oil goop also came out the exhaust when running the motor with earmuffs.

If I pull the exhaust covers what should I look for other than obvious voids in the gaskets?
