+how you doing i am new to this site seen lota of good info , but i have a question this is my first boat 1996 sunbird corsair 200sl the preevious oner had it sitting for 4 yrs when i got the boat it needed some wood replacement a i also changed oil filter drained fule tank . had it in my driveway and had it running and running good till i put it in the water, putted around for a while through wake zones and was fine started openong it up after a 5min ride the right bank exhaust had gotten so hot it melted the coating off and the bellos melted and started leaking water. after this happened removed boots and cleaned them. stoped the leak. than had problem starting, but ran fine on the way back never overheated runs fine at higher rpm, runs rough at idle. we to get the trailer to load up left it ideling and stalled when i got back. tried to start it and was locked up. when i got home found water in 3 cylinders .
wondering if anyone knows if just the exhaust could be dumping water into the cylinders or if it is a headgasket. if in the exhaust how to test for leak
s
thanks for any help

Welcome to iboats.....:)
Most likely a bad/cracked manifold /riser or gasket/surface between them......
Get the water out of the cylinders asap.....
The other side's manifolds are probably not far behind.....;)

I'm outta here - strictly a Merc man.

Since you say it was sitting for 4 years, did you do any maintenance on the sterndrive unit? It may have a water pump impeller that should have been replaced - that may be where to begin looking for problems (very common on Mercs - again, no experience with OMC).

Should be one on each side of the Y pipe, maybe that's caused your water ingestion problem? Question is where is the missing one. Maybe you can pull the drive and you might just see it sitting there in the exhaust path?

Basically 6 bolts & disconnect the trim rams and pull. But you need to make sure the drive is in forward. Sorry thats for a Mercruiser Alpha.

now a question is it possiable that the flapper was stuck closed causing the exhaust tube to melt.

Don't know if you pulled the drive or not but just leave the OMC's in neutral, like Limited-Time said above that was for a Mercruiser. Never heard of one sticking closed but suppose it could happen and that would cause problems for sure, most of the time they fall off.

Compression test will tell you if it's an engine issue or manifold. If comps good, look at the maniflolds.
