I have a late 80's 60 hp evinrude. Last night I went to start it with ear muff's and garden hose and noticed that water was spraying in at the bottom of the engine compartment. After turning the water pressure down it seemed to go away. Is it possible that I caused damage to the water pump or a hose by having to mush water pressure?

There are only a few places it can leak. In descending order of likeliness:

1. Telltale tube or fitting.

2. Exhaust cover.

3. Head gasket.

4. Powerhead to mid section gasket.
