Yesterday it was very wavy at the marina, and as we were filling the boat with gas, a wave came onto the swim platform and water got into the fuel filler. Maybe half of a cup. I know that ethanol absorbs some water but would you recommend using marine sta-bil too?

You should definitely consider a water separater if you don't already have one. They're incredibly easy to install (just cut the fuel line and attach either end of the cut to the appropriate barb on the filter base & screw on filter cartridge). I'd recommend the 10 micron filters for best performance & make sure you get something appropriately sized for your engine size.

I'll have to get one. After the fill up she ran fine, im just concerned with the water sitting in there now. Granted it was a small amount but still.

I wouldn't worry about it. After a couple of fillup it will all have been absorbed and passed thru the motor with no harm done.

Buy a can of Sea-Foam to mix in your fuel tank. You can get it at a hardware or automotive store. It removes water and will clean your carb. Also acts as a stabilizer. I haven't heard of anyone having a problem using this product. Ether can strip the lubrication in your motor.

Yeah but i only put a couple gallons of fuel in, because i didnt want to keep getting water in there. I wonder how long phase separationg takes. I'd say im right at the 3 teaspoon per gallon mark that will cause it.

Seafoam might help a little. It doesn't remove water, just helps dissolve it into the gas more. A water separater will do far better & actually remove the water before it gets to your engine (up to a point). I got my separater (Sierra brand) right here on iBoats for about $25 including mount & 1 cartridge. Took me about 30 minutes to install. I don't have the cartridge with the bowl on the bottom (they're about $30 each) so replacements for me are around $8 each. I'll replace it once a year. Cheaper than a can of Seafoam :)

I will add one for the future for sure. But im more worried about phase separation now. If the 3 gallons has phase seperated, i should be able to add 10 gallons to dilute the phase separated gas right? Or am i off track. Or am I worrying too much about this ha ha :p

You're worrying too much about it :) Get a can of Seafoam for now, fill up with fresh gas when possible & work on getting that water separater installed. You'll be fine.

Phase is instant once you exceed the amount of water the ethanol in the fuel can absorb. Even if it's phased, your making a mountain out of a mole hill. Install a 10 micron filter, 30 micron doesn't do a thing for water, and go back to boating as usual.

I wouldn't bother with Seafoam. It's crazy expensive as an additive and it does no better at removing moisture than fresh E-10.
