Boat is a 1987 powered by a 3.0. Last season the boat did not see water at all. Last fall when I winterized it & after fogging the engine I checked the gear oil & found water in it. I drained the drive & replaced the gear oil. Yesterday before I fired it up for the first time I checked the gear oil & it was fine. I started the engine & let it warm up. I then checked the gear oil level & found the level high & full of water. I pulled the drive & no water in bellows. Considering that the boat was not used last year, I'm ruling out the prop shaft seals & the dip stick gaskets as a cause of water getting in the drive. I now have the drive split & everything looks fine. The water tube & seals all look ok. I'm thinking maybe the seal on the water pump shaft is bad, but gear oil doesn't appear to be leaking past the seal. Does anyone have an opinion on how water can enter the drive just running off of muffs? Thanx a bunch.

IF??? It wasn't winterized right it's possible that the unit froze and cracked?
Drain it and do a pressure test.

That would be my guess but I would do a pressure test to confirm.
