water in lower unit

My 1958 18hp johnson has water in the lower unit is there anything other than the lower unit seal I should address for this issue

Take it to a dlr and have it pressure tested. That will take any guess work out of where it's leaking.

The most common source of water intrusion is failure to replace the drain and vent plug crush gaskets every time they are removed. Quick and easy to check and fix. Check that first before you start tearing stuff apart.
