Did start the seson with replace the oil in the lower unit, also did change impeller.
Have not run the engine much but i though it would be best to check the oil in the lower unit.
Did not found it good.
The oil was white and there was metal flakes in it.
So my quest is could it have anything with that impeller change or that i did not get new orings to the plugs?
Second: wheres the places where water maybe could get into the lower unit?

Hi Daniel.....

What concerns me more than the water is the metal flakes you found in with the oil. It means something is wrong with some part of the gearing inside. I would seriously consider pulling the lower unit off and taking a look inside to find out where the flakes are coming from.

What the hp and year of the engine?

Thanks
john faststrike 175 v6 -92.
Thinking about if it could have something to do with any fault when i hook up the lower unit to the engine after changed the impeller.
Im not shure but i may have turn the shift rod one or two turns when i pulled it back under the carbs.
Did also get prob with the shift switch start to kill half the engine at high rpm (have disconnect it now and the prob went away)

If you didn't mess with the shift rod height and stuck it back together, you can get away with a turn. Why not get a manual and take a look at the shift switch adjustment. It's there to keep your gears in one piece.

And I would really suggest taking a look at those gears.

Thanks OBJ.

Yea i guess i did turn the shift rod one or two turns.
Did get an seloc manual for about a month ago, but it says nothing about the shiftswitch.

Did leave the boat to the guys at the marina today.
Dont know for sure if i could handle those gear things on my own.
They say that it maybe just a bearing that start to breakdown.
When i did switch oil in the lower unit in the begining of this summer i didnt see any metal flakes in the oil and the oil looked like it should.
So i change the impeller but forgot to put a gasket under the impeller plate (the steel plate)
Maybe thats why i now got some water in the oil.
Well i have just run the engine for about one hour or so before i found thoose flakes.
So now i just hope its not to serius prob.

The lenght of the shift rod effects how far the clutch dog shifter moves. If it doesn't fully engage in forward or reverse, it causes excessive wear to the clutch. This is probably where all the metal flakes you saw came from.

c/6
Hooty
