Water in my fuel tank

I have a 1999 Tahoe 220 deck boat. I am having a problem with water in my fuel tank. Last year I pumped about 4 gallons of water out. This season after being stored with gas in the tank with fuel stabilizer in it, I have pumped out about 3 gallons of water. I cannot understand where this water is getting into the tank. The gas vent hose appears to run down below deck. Could it be sucking in water though the vent hose from below deck? I am puzzled as to how so much water is getting into the fuel tank. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sure doesn't sound like mere condensation with that much water. If you think it is coming in from the vent, move that hose up and out of that area and see. But make sure the vent isn't in a place that could cause a fire or collect fumes and even explode. Safety first!

The vent hose should run below deck to attach to the vent port on the tank.

Is the boat exposed to weather during storage? Condensation won't cause this much water.

Other than a hole on the tank or one of the under deck hoses, about the only way for water to enter the tank is is through the filler or vent fitting.

How old are the hoses? If you live in a cold area and the boat has rubber hoses, the rubber may have become brittle and cracked in a few spots.

Water can get in through a loose sending unit, seen a few that had bad gaskets, and the tank sags in the middle, allowing water to slide right in. Another place is the fuel filler, The o-ring can be no good and let water I n also.

The boat is exposed during storage. The o-ring on the cap looks good but the loose sending unit idea is something that I will check. A loose sending unit and water seeping past a bad gasket sure sounds like it may be the problem. I'll go check that out this weekend as well as the hoses. Thanks.
